All Abuzz – 3D Printing Meets Green Automotive Technology

Stratasys partnered with Kor Ecologic on Urbee: The first car ever to have an entire exterior 3D printed. The hybrid electric/liquid fuel car gets 200 mpg @ 70 mph on the highway.

Other hybrids on the road were developed by applying green standards to traditional vehicle formats. Urbee was designed with environmentally sustainable principles dictating design.

Stratasys’ 3D printing technology, Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), allowed Urbee developer, Kor Ecologic, to eliminate handwork, tooling, and machining in the prototyping phase, and it plans to continue to use FDM additive manufacturing all the way up through the pilot run of 10-20 vehicles.

The Urbee car was unveiled at SEMA show in Las Vegas.
