Objet's newest 3D Printer, the Objet260 Connex, was on display in Vancouver last week for this year's SIGGRAPH event. Featured on our booth were a number of 3D models including Destroyer from the 2011 superhero film, Thor and Neytiri from the 2009 Academy Award winning Avatar (in the photos above).
These pieces are just a sprinkling of the amazingly detailed 3D models designed by Legacy Effects, a studio specializing in bringing movie characters to life. Jason Lopez, system engineer at Legacy Effects is a firm proponent of 3D printing and has been using Objet since way back in 2001 when he worked on Jurassic Park 3.
More recently Jason has used his Objet 3D printer to design custom parts of the suit worn by Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man 2. Here he is in person describing how Objet's 3D printers have helped his company bring their incredible animations to life:
