3D prototyping of a vibratory deviceto help cystic fibrosis patients breathe more easily.Engneering.com is in the midst of a four-week competition to pick a great 3D model, and prizes are many. Last week's three winners each nabbed $100 and had their designs printed on a Mojo 3D Printer. Judges will pick two more rounds of weekly winners before someone takes home the $2,000 grand prize.

Designs are judged on visual appeal, complexity, originality, practicality and societal impact. You can squeeze in an entry today to be counted among week-two participants — then get started on something brilliant for the final Dec. 3 deadline. It's a great chance at a free model from an FDM machine, not to mention the cash and bragging rights.

Last week's top designs include a vibratory device that could help cystic fibrosis patients breathe more easily; an on-demand lampshade; and a wind turbine whose designer prioritized simplicity.
