3D printing is helping to fuel automotive innovation by giving designers and engineers the ability to test bentley, 3d printing and use different materials from conventional manufacturing processes, to scale down models for the purpose of design and even to simulate a full-size car before manufacturing.

Bentley’s design studio uses Objet30 Pro desktop and Objet500 Connex multi-material 3D Printers for assessment and testing of car parts prior to actual production. With the high precision capabilities of Stratasys 3D printers, any designed part can be fabricated  and prototyped in miniature, from tires, headlamps and door mirrors right down to the crystal decanter.

The Objet500 Connex multi-material 3D Printer gives the design team the unique capability to combine a variety of different material properties in the same printing process. This enables them to  create the true feel and functionality of every conceivable object used on either a car’s interior or exterior - from wheel rims and tires to full-size tail pipe trims. It also means a single 3D print can combine rigid and rubber-like, clear and opaque materials, eliminating the constraint that comes with assembly. This enables the design team to 3D print, for example, a rubber tire on a wheel rim. In addition, Stratasys rubber-like material enables Bentley to simulate rubber with different levels of hardness, elongation and tear resistance to produce rubber components with a variety of different tensile strengths.

Bentley cars have come to stand for a way of doing things. 3D printing allows for an extremely quick turnaround for design and prototyping - creating endless possibilities for creativity and exciting auto innovations.
