Not to be outdone by Paris, New York and Milan, the Israeli city of Holon celebrated its sixth annual fashion week from October 14-19, 2013. Holon is a center for both design and technology, anchored by the architecturally impressive Design Museum and the Israel Center for Digital Art. These two important strands of the fashion world came together in the fashion week’s theme, “Materials of Fashion.” The week featured awards, lectures and special appearances by fashion luminaries such as Stephen Jones, milliner, and Suzanne Lee, principal of BioCouture.
Kicking off Holon Fashion Week was the Fashion Awards ceremony, honoring the country’s top designers. Stratasys VP of Marketing Arita Mattsoff bestowed the award for Best Accessory Design. All the trophies for these awards were created using a Objet Connex multi-material 3D Printer by Stratasys.
Stratasys played an important role in Holon Fashion Week’s celebration of materials. Stratasys participated in the “materials library,” where designers and attendees could browse among exhibits, plus see and touch a variety of materials. Included among the exhibits were materials created for the art and design pieces of Professor Neri Oxman, of the MIT Media Lab, who has a close working relationship with Stratasys and has used Objet Connex multi-material 3D Printers for many projects. In addition, the Stratasys 3D printed shoes designed by Reem D. Koolhaas for Iris van Herpen’s July Paris Fashion Show collection were on display.
