3D Printed Soccer Ball Salutes World Cup

While Pelé might not have been talking about 3D printing when he called it “the beautiful game,” this stunning 3D printed soccer ball (or football depending on where in the world you live ) is a must see.

Stratasys partner Proto3000 designed and 3D printed a multi-material soccer ball using their Objet500 Connex Multi-material 3D Printer. Stratasys’ multi-material 3D printing technology allowed them to produce the individual pentagonal and hexagonal panels in a rigid transparent 3D printing material (VeroClear), with rubber-like (TangoBlackPlus) seams. After a rinse and finishing, they added flag stickers to the inside of the incredibly clear panels to highlight this year’s World Cup participants.

The fun video above will have you yelling “Goooooooooooooooooal!”

Why not have the facets curved like an actual ball? That would use the features of the printer even better. having a lens like surface to view the flags.
Good job though! Love the hinges!
